Anne McCaffrey passed away earlier this week. She was one of the first women to breach the pre-dominately male field of science fiction. I've read the Pern series several times. One of my other favorites is the Crystal singer series. I had the luck to meet her at a convention in New York many years ago. She had on a blue velvet outfit that she described as "harper blue". Anyone who has read the dragonrider books know what this is. We have truly lost a gifted storyteller.
